For Secretary - Amanda Ryan

My name is Amanda Ryan, and I am a Vocal Music Education major at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. I am running for the position of Secretary of the State MENC board. I am currently a sophmore and an alto in the Rutgers University Kirkpatrick Choir. I am on the executive board of the Kirkpatrick choir, and am looking to run for the Mason Gross School of the Arts Student Government. I am a member of the Rutgers University chapters of ACDA and Menc. I currently work/sing at St. John the Evangalist- Episcipalian church in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

I have taught sunday school for four years and vacation bible school for six years. I was on the executive board of my hghschool choir and involved in the NJMEA All state and region choirs as well as the ACDA All Eastern choir. I'm friendly, outgoing, and alot of fun- I know how to talk to people and how to get things done. I have A LOT of respect for all teachers because my mom has been one in public schools for 25 years. I enjoy helping others and I enjoy responsability. I also really like going for runs (when I have time), listening to music (especially Coldplay), eating chocolate (negating the running), and hanging out with my friends. Oh, and who can forget Rutgers Football!! I want to get more students involved in MENC, because I think it is the single best thing you can get yourself involved in as a Music Educator. Not only does it supply teachers with valuable resources such as repetoire and teaching techniques, but it is a great way to network and stay involved in the music community! I see in my own school that, although there are many dedicated members in our chapter, there are some music education students who are not members, and that boggles my mind! I want to get more students excited about MENC in the hopes that it will then get them more excited about teaching! I also want to try to find ways to connect the different collegiate chapters- events, lectures, trips; I think it is important that we get together so we can learn from eachother and see what eachother has to offer!
